A Deception & A Covenant

A. Two Distinct Groups of Israel’s Adversary (9:1-13)

1. The 6 tribes west of Jordan joined together to fight against Israel (vs. 1-2)
2. The 4 neighboring tribes (v.17) joined on a deceptive scheme against Israel. (vs. 3-13)

B. The Deceptive Scheme Worked (9:14-21)

1. The best route to one’s heart is through the stomach (v. 14a)
2. Failing to seek God’s counsel is assurance for failure (v. 14b)
3. Joshua offers a generous treaty (v. 15)
4. Deceptive scheme exposed (v. 16=17)
5. Israel’ honors her vow despite breaking God’s command (v. 18-20)

C. Consequence & Accountability Justified (9:21-27)

1. Consequence of deception announced (v. 21)

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. VBS: It’s the Vacation Bible School of a lifetime! Bring your entire family to ancient Egypt! You’ll track back into Biblical times – without setting foot outside our community. Experience this fun, hands-on Bible-times event at Home of Christians, L.A. Each Sunday during August 2025, you become part of history as you see, hear, and touch what it is like to live in Pharaoh’s empire! You’ll explore authentic marketplace shops, visit Joseph, take part in games, and dance to lively Bible songs as you discover more about how God was with Joseph in good times and in bad. These experiences bring God’s Word to life with new meaning for all who participate. VBS is every Sunday in August from 10:00-12:00pm.
2. Parking: We continue to reserve our church parking spaces on Sunday for the elderly, those with children and those with special needs. We are grateful to the Lord that our brothers have secured permission from Dr. Howard Chen’s Orthodontics clinic for the use of his parking lot at 318 N Garfield Ave., which is conveniently located on the same side as our church and adjacent to Dim Sum Express. Please click here for reference. The lot offers 30 parking spaces, and we encourage all congregants to fully utilize these spaces. Please ensure that you park within the designated lines, lock your doors and windows, refrain from leaving valuables in your vehicles, and maintain cleanliness in the parking area. This arrangement is available every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
3. In-Person Meetings: Welcome back! English group, Chinese group and children Sunday School is back to in person meetings. Our meeting schedule has changed, Sunday morning starts 9:15AM with Breaking of Bread followed by worship and message at 10:00AM. Please refer to the schedule for details.
4. Prayer Meeting: Prayer Meetings are Tuesdays from 8:00 to 9:15PM, joining via Webex for the combined session of the meeting (Meeting number: 6 2 7 5 6 4 2 7 4 Password: 4 0 0 0). We are using Zoom for the English group session, please reach out to Richer for login information.
