The questions are in the order of the verses with similar ones grouped together.
Chapters 1:1 – 2:3 Questions
- Adult (Gen 1:1-2:3) “In the beginning, God created.. .” Does this mean the beginning of God? Why or why not?
- Youth (Gen 1:1-2:3) Gen 1:2 says the earth was formless and empty. Do you think this is the original form of the earth? Why or why not?
- Youth (Gen 1:1-2:3) Was water created before the first day of creation?
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 1:1-2:3) What is the source of light on day 1 of creation? (Ref day 1 and day 4 of creation). How is there light on day 1, 2, 3 before the sun was created on day 4?
- Youth (Gen 1:1-2:3) How could there be light on the first day when the sun, moon and stars were not created until the fourth day?
- College (Gen 1:1-2:3) Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that men and women were created in God’s image. How do you see this truth? a) What are some implications of being made in the image of God? b) How does understanding that we are God’s image bearers change how you think or live today?
- Adult (Gen 1:1-2:3) What was man’s responsibility given by God? (verse 28)
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 1:1-2:3) Why did God rest on the seventh day? Why are Christians not observing rest on the seventh day?
- Adult (Gen 1:1-2:3) Can you find the shadow of redemption which is paralleled in this chapter?
- College (Gen 1:1-2:3) What attributes of God are revealed in this passage? (whole chapter)
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 1:1-2:3) Do you see any particular rhyme or reason in the order that God created everything?
Chapters 2:4 – 3:24 Questions
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 2:4-3:24) In Genesis 2:8-9 it says “Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.” What does Eden represent?
- College (Gen 2:4-3:24) Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” Did God have an afterthought for not creating Eve at the same time as Adam? (Why do you think God did not make Adam and Eve at the same time?)
- Adult (Gen 2:4-3:24) Why and how did God make a woman for Adam? How does Adam describe her? What name did he name her? What’s the meaning of it? (2:18,21,23)
- Youth (Gen 2:4-3:24) Are women inferior to men because they were created second?
- Adult (Gen 2:4-3:24) Why does a man need to leave his parents and be united with his wife? (2:23)
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 2:4-3:24) Genesis 3 begins with the serpent talking with Eve. Describe the interaction/situation. What lessons can we take from this?
- Adult (Gen 2:4-3:24) How did man fall? How does the serpent make the man sin? (3:1-7)
- College (Gen 2:4-3:24) What did the Serpent and Eve say about God and His commands in verses 3:1-5 that create confusion and helped lead to Adam and Eve’s disobedience? What three statements from the serpent show his strategy to lead to disobedience (verses 3:1, 4, and 5)? Read Ephesians 6:10-12. What does this verse tell you about the devil’s schemes?
- Youth (Gen 2:4-3:24) In Romans 5:12 If Adam was not the one who ate the fruit or deceived by serpent, why is he the one who is responsible for sin to enter the world? Was Adam with Eve when she was deceived by the serpent?
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 2:4-3:24) Genesis 3:21 says “1 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” Prior to banishing them from the Garden of Eden and shutting them out from the Tree of Life which gives eternal life, he clothed them. Why do you think God did this?
- Youth (Gen 2:4-3:24) When Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge of good and evil were the consequences intended or unintended?
Chapters 4-5 Questions
- Adult (Gen 4-5) Why did God accept Abel’s gift and not Cain’s? (4:4-5)
- College (Gen 4-5) Why did the Lord look with favor upon Abel’s sacrifice but not Cain’s? What did Cain do that was not right? (Hebrews 11:4)
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 4-5) What lessons can we learn from Cain on how to respond when we feel extreme hurt? Any advice we can give Cain on how to cope with failure or how to deal with it?
- Adult (Gen 4-5) What does it mean when God told Cain “Sin is crouching at the door eager to control you”? (4:7)
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 4-5) When Cain asked his brother to go on the field, do you feel this was a pre meditated murder? If so, what do you think was Cain’s reasoning behind it?
- College (Gen 4-5) What does verse 9 tell us about the way we tend to respond when our sin is confronted? (Judas vs Peter’s response towards their sin) What is the proper response? (2 Samuel 12, 2 Samuel 24:10-14, Psalm 51, 2 Cor.7:10)
- College (Gen 4-5) How does God respond to Cain’s complaint? What does this tell us about God’s response to our sin? (Is. 53:1-6, 1 John 4:19, Romans 5:8, John 8:3-11)
- Youth (Gen 4-5) Why did the Lord put the mark on Cain?
- Youth (Gen 4-5) Why can Cain marry his sister, also Abraham with his half-sister and Jacob with his cousin and have offspring that have no birth defects like in the present?
- Youth (Gen 4-5) What difference have you noticed between the genealogies of Cain and Seth? Why is it so?
- Adult (Gen 4-5) From verse 5:3-32 we can see that Adam lived 930 years, then his descendants lived shorter and shorter lives. In our present time, the people live the most is 100 -110 years, why?
- P-Pie-Ahs (Gen 4-5) Would you personally like to live for as long as they did? (referring to the genealogy in Gen 5)
