Bible Passages: Luke 4:1-13

Main Point: The Seed of woman confronting Satan and defeated him

I. Introduction: The Son of God who is fully man came into the world of barrenness

II. Jesus defeated the devil as a Man
Adam as the son of God Jesus as the Son of God / Son of Man
The 1st created man The second Person of the Trinity
Received the breath of life from God In Him is life
Created innocent, but corrupted by sin Sinless, perfect humanity
From dust to dust From heaven, returned to heaven
Separated from God by sin Beloved of the Father

Christians in Christ as the sons and daughters of God
New creation in Christ
Born of the Spirit
Redeemed and justified by the blood of Jesus
From earth, journeying to heaven
Reconciled and loved by God

III. Jesus defeated the devil with the Word of God
Jesus is the incarnate Word – Logos
Jesus speaks the Word – Rhema
Satan challenged the Logos, but was defeated by the Rhema

IV. Humanity still faces the same temptations Jesus defeated
The lust of the flesh
The lust of the eyes
The pride of life (Gen 2:3:6, 1 Jn 2:16)

IV. Conclusion:
1. The last Adam as the Head of the new creation has defeated the ancient serpent
Our enemy is a defeated foe
2. The second Man defeated the devil (v 13)
In Christ, Christians are victorious over the devil

A Warning: The devil departed until an opportune time (v 13)
Our enemy still lurks around for opportune time to trip us
We have the Holy Spirit and the written Word to help us overcome the temptations
“My words are Spirit and life” Jn 6:63
