The King’s Triumphal Entry


Scriptures: John 12:12-19, Lev 23:40, Zech 9:9, Isa 62:11, 2 Kings 9:13, Psalms 118:26, 8:2, Matt 21:16

I. Introduction (John 11:48)
a. “If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
b. House of Simon the leper

i. Lazarus
ii. Martha
iii. Mary’s expensive perfume’s

c. Bethany is a small town just 2 miles from Jerusalem.

II. The Preparations for the King’s Triumphal Entry
a. Preparation of The King’s Subject – Palm tree, Hosanna (Ps 118:25-26), King of Israel (Jn 1:49)
b. Preparation of the King’s followers – Donkey (Zec 9:9)
c. Preparation of the King’s Adversary.
d. Application to evangelistic movement.

III. Calendar of the Passover week is taken from Lightfoot

NISAN IX; The Sabbath. Six days before the Passover, Jesus sups with Lazarus at the going out of the Sabbath, when according to the custom of that country their suppers were more liberal.

NISAN X; Sunday. Five days before the Passover, Jesus goes to Jerusalem on an ass, and in the evening returns to Bethany (Mar_11:11). On this day the lamb was taken, and kept till the Passover (Exo_12:1-51), on which day this Lamb of God presented Himself, who was the Antitype of that ride.

NISAN XI; Monday. Four days before the Passover, He goes to Jerusalem again; curseth the unfruitful fig tree (Mat_21:18; Mar_11:12); in the evening He returns again to Bethany (Mar_6:19).

NISAN XII; Tuesday. Three days before the Passover, He goes again to Jerusalem; His disciples observe how the fig tree was withered (Mar_11:20). In the evening going back to Bethany, and sitting on the Mount of Olives, He foretelleth the destruction of the Temple and city (Mat_24:1-51), and discourses those things which are contained in Mat_25:1-46.

NISAN XIII; Wednesday. This day He passeth away in Bethany. At the coming in of this night, the whole nation apply themselves to put away all leaven.

NISAN XIV; Thursday. He sends two of His disciples to get ready the Passover. He Himself enters Jerusalem in the afternoon. In the evening eats the Passover, institutes the Eucharist: is taken, and almost all the night had before the Courts of Judicature.

NISAN XV; Friday. Afternoon, He is crucified.

NISAN XVI; Saturday. He keeps the Sabbath in the grave.

NISAN XVII; The Lord’s Day. He riseth again.

IV. Conclusion:
a. Jesus chose to ride on a donkey colt instead of a mighty white horse at His triumphal Entry. He said in

Matt 11:29,“I am gentle and humble in heart.” In Mark 10:45 He said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…”

b. We are living in the “End Time. There are 1,239 prophecies in the Old Testament and 578 prophecies in the New Testament according to the Barton Payne’s Encyclopedia of Bible Prophecy. More than half of these prophecies have fully fulfilled. We must diligently study the Bible.

c. Jesus prophesized that “this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:12–14). We must diligently preach the gospel.

  1. Bible Study Workshop: We are going to pause a few weeks from our Bible study on the Pentateuch and will continue our Bible study workshop in the next few weeks. Bro. Dio will use The Letter of Jude to demonstrate some of the Bible study methods and principles. It is vital that you study the letter on your own before coming to the meeting.   2. Special Conference: Our church is going to host a special six-session conference from September 29 to October 1. We have invited Brother William Ho and Sister Esther Su to minister to us. We will have love feasts on Friday evening (9/29) and Saturday evening (9/30) at 6:30 PM. Brother William Ho and Sister Esther Su will speak on different topics.For Bro. William Ho’s Sessions:
    • Friday 9/29 at 7:30 PM The Challenges Families Face During The End Time (Chinese only)
    • Saturday 9/30 at 7:30 PM The Communication of Love (Chinese only)
    • Sunday 10/1 11:00 – 12:30 AM Combined Message: The Heart of a Father (Message will be translated from Chinese to English) (after the Combined Breaking of Bread from 10:00 – 10:50 AM)

    For Sister Esther Su’s sessions, the overall theme is “The Great Dinosaur Mystery—Bible and Science”. She will speak in English without translation, and her talks cater to 4th graders to youths. All her sessions will take place at the 2nd floor Small Sanctuary. The Friday and Saturday evening sessions will start at 7:30 PM, and the Sunday session at 10:30 AM.

    Please prepare your hearts and pray for this special conference. We hope everyone can attend and be blessed by the Lord. There will be babysitting and a children’s program for each session. If anyone would like to have a one-on-one session with either Brother William Ho or Sister Esther Su, please contact Sister Kate Chiang at 626-757-6992 for the arrangement.

  3. In-Person Meeting: Welcome back! English group, Chinese group and children Sunday School is back to in person meetings. Our meeting schedule has changed, Sunday morning starts 10:00AM with Breaking of Bread followed by worship and message at 11:00AM. Please refer to the schedule for details.
