Power to live a life of True Devotion to Jesus and His Service

Passages: 1 Thessalonians 5:23, John 14:1-21

I. Jesus is preparing a dwelling place for us and will come again to receive us.

II. Jesus is one with the Father.

III. The Father will give us another helper, the Spirit of Truth.

a. The Church received the promise and her growth by the Holy Spirit on the day of her birth.

b. What enabled them to become the recipients of these heavenly gifts? -when they became acceptable vessels for the habitation of God.

i. They were deeply attached to the Lord Jesus – Only a heart that is entirely occupied with the Lord Jesus and depends entirely on Him can hope for the fullness of the Spirit.

ii. In His Word Jesus teaches us that without sacrifice, without a deliberate separation from the world, we will never make much progress in grace.

iii. Jesus also began to teach them that a disciple must deny himself and lose his own life if he would be worthy of receiving His life.
