Jesus’ Temple Cleansing – A Sign of Prophetic Significance

Scripture: John 2:12-22

During this prolonged lockdown or stay-at-home order in response to Covid-19 pandemic, churches are suffering tremendous setback due to close-to-zero attendants and reduced income. Some church leaders felt that their religious freedom is compromised and some even began to sue their local government.

It is with this backdrop that I chose this topic to discuss with you this morning. “Temple Cleansing — A Sign of Prophetic Significance.”

A. Jesus’ Temple cleansing is a sign that points to Jesus as the New Temple.
B. Jesus’ Temple Cleansing is a sign that points to Jesus as God’s appointed Messiah and the Son of God.
C. Jesus’ Temple Cleansing is a sign that points to Jesus as the only Savior, and we are saved by believing in His name.

REFLECTION:
Today, we are glad that we do not see similar business activities happening within our church premises. But do we have other hidden agenda when we come to church aside from worshiping God?

Do we feel our religious freedom is violated by government authority when they shut down our church due to Covid-19 threat?

Is it possible for us to worship God outside our church chapel/sanctuary on Sunday morning? What does it mean to worship God in spirit and in truth?

What can we learn from John the Apostle in our effort to help others believe in Jesus? How can we effectively present Jesus as Messiah, Son of God, and Savior to unbelievers?
