How Well Do We Know God?

Scriptures: Jer 9:23-24, 1 John 2:3-4, Hos 6:6, Psalms 139, Matt 9:4-5, John 2:24-25

I. Introduction:

1. A key thought in the Old Testament is the understanding to know God. (Jer 9:23-24)

2. To know Him is to keep His commandment. (1 John 2:3-4)

3. To know God is not just an intellectual knowledge about Him, but a personal relationship with Him. (Hos 6:6)

4. A great tragedy, some can spend years listening to sermons, reading the scriptures, even teaching the Bible but not enjoy a close relationship with God.

II. God is omniscience – all knowing: (v1-6)

1. He searches and knows our entire life. (v1,2)

2. He scrutinizes and is familiar with all our ways – even before we express our thoughts. (v3,4)

3. He surrounds us from behind and before – places His hand upon us. (v5)

4. His knowledge is infinite and wonderful – incomprehensible. (v6)

III. God is omnipresence – everywhere: (v7-18)

1. He will continue to lead His own with His right hand. (v7-10)

2. Neither darkness nor night can suppress His glorious light. (v11-12)

3. He formed our innermost parts and knitted us together in our mother’s womb. (v13)

4. We are fearfully and wonderfully made – Give thanks and praise to the Lord (v14)

a. Fearfully – great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect.

b. Wonderfully – unique and set apart.

5. The Lord eyes have seen my frame being formed in secret, and in God’s book were all written from the appointed day onward. (15-16)

6. How precious are God’s though for us, vast that outnumber the sand? (v 17-18)

IV. Pertaining to wicked: (v 19-22)

1. Men of bloodshed

2. Speaks against God with malicious intent

3. Take God’s name in vain

4. Hatred of God.

5. Rise against God.

6. We should distance ourselves from wicked and hate them with complete hatred.

V. Psalmist prayer: (v23-24)

1. Search me, O God and know my heart.

2. Try me and know my thoughts.

3. See if there be any grievous (wicked) way in me.

4. Lead me in the everlasting way.
