How Should Christians Face Calamity

Scriptures: Psalm 46:1-3, Isaiah 41:10.

Psalm 46:1-3 (NIV)
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Introduction: The recent outbreak of coronavirus has driven the whole world into panic mode. Christian researchers warn us that when epidemics or calamities strikes, the biggest challenge facing the church is not the loss and damages caused by the calamity, but the believers’ misconception of calamity.
Many Christians believe that calamity is God’s punishment against sinners. Others perceive calamity as God’s way of testing and refining believers. Some even suggest that calamity occurs because either God is not a loving God or He doesn’t have the power to prevent it from happening.
Instead of being overly concerned with the causes of the calamity, we should face calamity in a positive manner that will bring edification of church members. We Must turn adversity into God’s blessing in disguise.
