Behold the Man Who Heals

Scriptures: Luke 5:12-26

Intro: Jesus came for the sick (Exodus 15:26, Luke 5:31)

 

Main Points:

Main Points:

  1. Jesus heals our sin nature (5:12-16)
    1. He is willing — Incarnation
    2. He touched us — one with us
    3. He makes us clean —fit and acceptable for God
    4. How can we be made clean from our sin nature?:
      1. We must know and acknowledge our fallen state
      2. We must come to Jesus in humility for mercy
      3. We will be justified by Jesus’ sacrifice and be acceptable to God

 

  1. Jesus heals the consequence of our sin (5:17-26)
  2. The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins
  3. Paralysis — the consequence of sin is powerlessness of life
  4. How can we receive His healing?:
  5.     We come to Jesus even though we are too weak to come on our own

   ii.     The power of the Holy Spirit is our power for our new life

Conclusion:

  1. God heals the root of our sickness — sin. The physical infirmity is only the symptom.
  2. The cleansing of sin in Jesus is complete now. The mending of the physical body is temporary. The completion of our healing is in our resurrection body.
  3. We live in the imperfect temporal bodies by the power of the Holy Spirit for the glory of God.
