The What’s and Why’s of Christmas
Scriptures: Jeremiah 10:10-12; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:8-9
Introduction:
Aside from the New Year’s Day, Christmas is arguably the most celebrated holiday in the whole world today. Ironically, Jesus Christ was not even born on December 25th, and the word “Christmas” is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible. In fact, there are quite a number of Christians who do not celebrate Christmas because they know it is not the real birthdate of Jesus. However, it is interesting to note that Christmas is the only day of the year when the biggest number of non-Christians attend a church service. It is therefore quite appropriate for us to discuss about Christmas this morning. We will discuss some What’s and Why’s of Christmas. The “What’s” refer to cold facts and information. The “Why’s” explain the reasons behind the “What’s” that impact our life and influence our actions and decisions.
Message:
- The First What and Why of Christmas: The Mortal vs. the Immortal
- The Second What and Why of Christmas: The Works vs. the Grace and Faith
- The Third What and Why of Christmas: Conditional Gift vs. Free Gift
Conclusion:
We have listed a good number of “What’s” of Christmas and explain all the “Why’s” behind them. While the “What’s” speak to our brain with facts and information, the “Why’s” speak to our heart and stimulate our thinking and triggers our decisions and actions. Today (Christmas) is a very timely occasion for you to make the most important decision you will ever make in your whole life.
