Honored, Sanctified and Useful Vessel for the Master (Part 2)

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 2:20-21, 1 Timothy 1, John 16:8

I. He urges Timothy to deal against false doctrines:

1. The teaching of strange doctrines. (v3)
2. Paying attention to myths and endless genealogies – leading to: (v4)
1. Mere speculations
2. Not furthering administration of God’s faith.

II. Love is faith in action: (v5)

1. Pure heart –
1. Pure – meaning is purified by fire, pruned, free from false, blameless, sincere genuine.
2. Heart – center of blood circulation, center of our spiritual life, soul and mind, a fountain and seat of thought, passion, desire, appetites, affection, purpose, intelligent
2. Good conscience – Through Our Conscience: God hardwired us with an inner awareness of what is right and wrong with an inclination to do right. (Acts 23:1, 24:16)
   1. Good – useful, excellent, upright, distinguish, honorable.
   2. Conscience – Consciousness of everything, that part of our soul that distinguish between what is morally good and bad, prompting to do the former and shun the latter. Commending one and condemning the other.
3. Sincere faith – conviction/belief of the truth respecting our relationship with God and our Lord Jesus Christ resulting in fellowshipping with God and living according to His will with sincerity.

III. Misuse of the Law – law is not for the righteous but for the unrighteous, to lead them to the glorious gospel of God. (v6-11) (Matt 22:36-40)

IV. He encourages Timothy to fight the good fight; and to keep a good faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith.
