Scriptures: 2 Timothy 2:20-21, 1 Timothy 1:1-20, John 16:8

I. Paul is an apostle of Christ Jesus. (1 Tim 1:1)
1. According to commandment of God our Savior.
2. Of Christ Jesus, who is our hope.

II. He calls Timothy his true child in the faith. (v2)

III. Grace, mercy and peace for God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. (v3)
1. Grace
2. Mercy
3. Peace

IV. He urges Timothy to deal against false doctrines:
1. The teaching of strange doctrines. (v3)
2. Paying attention to myths and endless genealogies – leading to: (v4)
3. Mere speculations
4. Not furthering administration of God’s faith.

V. Love is faith in action: (v5)
1. Pure heart
2. Good conscience (Acts 23:1, 24:16)
3. Sincere faith

VI. Misuse of the Law (v6-11)

VII. Paul’s testimony

VIII. He encourages Timothy to fight the good fight;  and to keep a good faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith.
