Striving for Spiritual Maturity
Scriptures: Hebrews 5:1-6:20
I. Outline of Hebrews
II. 5 Warnings in Hebrews
1. 1st Warning: against neglecting salvation: danger of drifting away (Hebrews 2:1-4).
2. 2nd Warning: against hardening of heart: danger of failure to enter God’s rest (Hebrews 3:7-18).
3. 3rd Warning: against apostasy: impossibility of being restored again. (Hebrews 6:4-8) (against dullness of hearing, immaturity: danger of not maturing. (Hebrews 5:11-6:2))
4. 4th Warning: danger of drawing back. (Hebrews 10:26-39)
5. 5th Warning: danger of refusing God. (Hebrews 12:25-29)
III. Jesus exalted Himself Hight Priest in the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:1-10)
1. Our Lord was appointed by God.
2. He was without sin.
3. His priestly service dates from completion of His mediatorial work on the cross.
4. He offered up prayers and supplication.
IV. Inspiring Desire for Spiritual Maturity (Hebrews 5:11-6:3)
1. Immature Christians are Spiritual Infants. (Hebrews 5:11-12, 6:1b-3)
2. Matured Christians are Spiritual Adults Taking Solid Food (Hebrews 5:13-14)
V. Basic Teaching of Christian Faith (Hebrews 6:1-2):
1. Repentance from sins (“dead works” is taken from Rom. 6:23, the wages of sin is death),
2. Putting our faith in God,
3. Instructions about washing, referring to water baptism,
4. Laying of hands, referring to conferring of blessings & anointing for healing the sick, and commissioning missionaries, etc.
5. Believing in the resurrection of the death
6. Believing in eternal judgement.
VI. Warning Against Apostasy (Hebrews 6:4-12)
1. The cost of apostasy is terminally deadly. (Hebrews 6:4-8)
2. True Christians are assured of salvation and eventual hope. (Hebrews 6:9-12)
V. God’s unchangeable promise:
1. Patience is requisite to obtain God’s promise. (Hebrews 6:13-15)
2. God’s promise is doubly guaranteed with His oath. (Hebrews 6:16-18)
3. Christian hope is guaranteed by the saving work of Christ. (Hebrews 6:19-20)

- Parking: We continue to reserve our church parking spaces on Sunday for the elderly, those with children and those with special needs. We are grateful to the Lord that our brothers have secured permission from Dr. Howard Chen’s Orthodontics clinic for the use of his parking lot at 318 N Garfield Ave., which is conveniently located on the same side as our church and adjacent to Dim Sum Express. Please click here for reference. The lot offers 30 parking spaces, and we encourage all congregants to fully utilize these spaces. Please ensure that you park within the designated lines, lock your doors and windows, refrain from leaving valuables in your vehicles, and maintain cleanliness in the parking area. This arrangement is available every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
- In-Person Meeting: Welcome back! English group, Chinese group and children Sunday School is back to in person meetings. Our meeting schedule has changed, Sunday morning starts 9:15AM with Breaking of Bread followed by worship and message at 10:00AM. Please refer to the schedule for details.
- Prayer Meeting: Prayer Meetings are Tuesdays from 8:00 to 9:15PM, joining via Webex for the combined session of the meeting (Meeting number: 6 2 7 5 6 4 2 7 4 Password: 4 0 0 0). We are using Zoom for the English group session, please reach out to Richer for login information.
- Bible Reading Plan: For 2024 Bible-in-a-year reading, we will follow “More Jesus Reading Plan 365” and will read through the Bible in a year. With a reading plan, we can keep one another accountable in our Bible reading. For more details or to join the plan, click here.
