Jesus’ Death Authenticates His Supremacy

Scriptures: Hebrews 2:1-18

Introduction:
The author continues to stress his points by quoting more scriptural passages proving Jesus’ supremacy over angels.

1. A Stern Warning Against Ignoring Salvation (Hebrews 2:1-4)
2. Jesus, Not Angels, is Given Dominion Over the Created World (Hebrews 2:5-9)
3. Jesus, Not Angels, is the Founder of Salvation. (Hebrews 2:10-13)
4. Jesus Triumphs over the Power of Darkness. (Hebrews 2:14-18)
(a) Satan’s power of death is defeated and destroyed (Hebrews 2:14)
(b) We are no longer afraid of death (Hebrews 2:15)
(c) Our sins are fully propitiated and we are declared innocent and righteous (Hebrews 2:17)
(d) We now have an intercessor who understands our sufferings, temptations, and weaknesses (Hebrews 2:18)

Speaker: Eddie Lo

Reflections & Discussion:
1. Aside from gaining some in-depth knowledges about Christology, How can we apply what we have learned from Chapters 1 & 2 concerning Jesus’ supremacy?
2. Today’s Church is heavily affected by consumerism. Many Christians are seeking for churches with state-of-the art structure, facility, hardware and software, rather than seeking for spiritual edification. There is a common lack of commitment and involvement. As a result, church goers tend to drift away faster than as compared to those in previous eras. How can we promote Christ-centered culture in the church to prevent believers from drifting away in anticipation of the emerging church persecution.
3. Jesus declares to His disciples after His resurrection that “All authorities in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (Matthews 28:18) And in Hebrews 2:14, and “that through death he (Jesus) might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil. (Hebrews 2:14)” How come we still do not see Jesus exercising His authority when Christians in a third of nations in the world today are under severe persecution?
