The Second Coming of Christ – Day of the Lord
Passages: 2 Peter 3, Hebrews 9:24-28, Isa 13:9, Jer 46:10, Eze 30:3, Joel 1:15, 1 Th 5:2,4, Malachi 4:1, James 5:7-8, Jude 1:14, Dan 7:26-27,
I. Past (Heb 9:26)
1. To remember the holy prophets and the apostles’ teaching.
2. To stimulate thinking and refresh memory. (to wake up, arouse (from sleep), arise, stir up. Pure mind (understand), remembrance.
II. Present (Heb 9:24)
-
1. Beware of scoffers – mocking the truth and following their own desires.

a. Mocked about 2nd coming of Christ stating there is no change.
b. Deliberately forget about God’s creation, the flood.
c. Stating that everything remains the same and not believing that everything around us will be destroyed then judgment.
2. Believers need to:
-
a. Remember that to the Lord a day is like a thousand years and vice versa.
b. Acknowledge that the Lord is not slow to His promise but He is patient because He wants everyone to repent.
c. Live holy and godly lives.
d. Look forward and hasten to the day of God; and to new heavens and earth.
e. Make every effort in living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
f. Understand our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.
g. Rightly dividing God’s word.
h. Be on guard against errors of the wicked.
i. Be alert not to lose your own secure footing.
j. Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
k. Give God all the glory, both now and forever!
III. Future (Heb 9:26)
-
1. Day of the Lord will come as thief.
2. Heavens, earth and everything around us will be destroyed.
3. There will be judgments.
4. There will be new heavens and a new earth
5. Kingdoms under heaven will be given to the holy people of the Most High.
6. God’s kingdom will last forever, and all rulers will serve and obey him.
