Obedience To God

Scriptures: Genesis 2:15-17, 3:11, Rev 22:14, 12:17, 14:12-13, Rom 5:19, Phil 2:8, Heb 5:8-9, Gen 6:22, 7:5,9,16, Heb 11:8, Ex 19:5, John 14,15, Acts 15:22, Phil 4:11

I. Introduction

II. How importance is obedience in the Bible?

1. Genesis 2 and 3 show God’s demand of obedience as the one thing that decides his destiny. Nothing is said of humility, faith or love.

2. Revelation 22:14 says that “Blessed are those who wash their robes [in the blood of Christ by believing and trusting in Him—the righteous who do His commandments].

III. The absolute obedience of Christ on the cross enables us to gain entrance to the tree of life that was closed in the garden of Eden. (Rom 5:19, Phil 2:8, Heb 5:8-9)

IV. Old Testament Examples:

1. Noah – the new father of the human race, and you will find four times written (Genesis 6:22; 7:5, 9, 16), ‘Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.’

2. Abraham – father of the chosen race. Heb 11:8 ‘By faith Abraham, when he was called [by God], obeyed by going to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went, not knowing where he was going.’

3. Moses – Exodus 19:5 “Now therefore, if you will in fact obey My voice and keep My covenant (agreement), then you shall be My own special possession and treasure from among all peoples [of the world], for all the earth is Mine;”

V. Applications: (John 14:15, 16, 21, 23), ‘If ye love Me, keep My commandments. And… the Father… shall give you another Comforter (the HOLY SPIRIT). He that hath My commandments and keep them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him… If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him.’ (John 15)

1. Living in God’s love

2. Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

3. Understand the Word of God.

4. Practice the presence of the Holy Spirit.

5. Observe the substantive work of God.

6. Submit to the leading of the Church.

7. See the hands of God in our circumstantial environment.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Combined Meeting:Next Sunday is combined meeting with the Chinese speaking congregation. Our meeting will start at 10:00AM.
  2. West Coast Christian Conference (WCCC) 2021:
Thanks be to the Lord! The West Coast Christian Conference for 2021 will be held from Wednesday, July 28 through Sunday, August 1. The conference last year was canceled because of the pandemic. We are thankful to the Lord that the situation has improved. Even so, restrictions persist on travel, room and board, and mass gatherings. And the health and safety of brothers and sisters remain our priority. As a result, the conference will be held online this year. The theme for this conference will be what the Lord gave us last year: “The Spiritual Reality of the Church”. The focus is Col 3:11b: Christ is all. Registration is set to open on April 15, 2021. Detailed information will be provided as soon as it is available. Please read the linked First Prayer Letter for the Conference.
  3. Breaking of Bread: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our church has not been able to have Breaking of Bread Meeting for a long time. But we want to follow the Lord’s command. According to the Holy Bible (Acts 2:46), saints can break bread at home if there are more than two people in a household. When conducting the Breaking of Bread, please use unleavened bread (like Matzo) and grape wine to remember the Lord. For regional home meetings, each home meeting may conduct its Break of Bread together online. Each family or individual within a regional home meeting will prepare its own bread and cup to remember the Lord. If brothers and sisters need any assistance relating to the online Breaking of Bread, like how to host or participate in an online meeting, or how to prepare unleavened bread and grape wine, or needing Hymnaries, for English Group, please contact Brother William, Brother Caleb and Sister Jean. If conditions permit in the future, we can have a church-wide online Breaking of Bread. For information to access coming Sunday’s Breaking of Bread, please email William at williego@pacbell.net
