Scriptures: Matthew 24:3, Luke 17:24, Matthew 24:36, 37-39, Luke 17:26-27, 1 Peter 3:20, 2 Peter 2:5. Luke 17:28-30, 2 Peter 2:7. Reference Bible Passages: Genesis 5:32 – 9:29, 18:20 -19:38.
I. The signs of the coming of the Lord and the end of the world (Matthew 24:3)
For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. (Luke 17:24)
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” Matthew 24:36
God gives people signs
1. The coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. – “People were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” (Matthew 24:37-39, Luke 26, 27)
1) God tolerated the days of extreme corruption
2) God commanded Noah to build the ark (Genesis 6:9, 2 Peter 2:5) – Flood destroyed the world, it happened 1656 (687-969) years after the creation of human.
2. “And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man” – They were eating and drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building, but no marriage is mentioned (Luke 17:28-30)
1) Lot lived in a wicked city Sodom (Genesis 18:20-23, 19:1-11, 2 Peter 2:7,8) – The generation of Lot was worse than Noah’s.
2) The two angels seized Lot’s hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters. The two angels charged them to escape for your life and do not look behind you… (Genesis 19:15-22 Ref 18:22-33)
– When God overthrew Sodom and those cities Abraham was 99 years old, and it was 451 years from the flood and 2107 years from the creation of human.
II. The different ends of two saved families, Christians should see it as our warning – Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. (Hebrews 13:7)
1. Noah’s family (Genesis 9:18-29) – this old man felt lonely and got himself drunk and exposed his nakedness
2. Lot’s Family (Genesis 19:14, 25, 26, 30-38)
3. Lot was righteous person, but he failed in many ways (See 2 Peter 7)
III. The old saints who gained approval by God through their faith (Hebrews 11)
1. By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice (a lamb – signifies the dependence on God) than Cain. (Cain offered the produce of the ground – signifies independence from God testified for Abel’s gifts.
2. By faith Enoch walked with God for 300 years and he had others sons and daughters. God was delighted in him and God took him up. (he was the first one being rupture while still alive. (Hebrews 11:5) He had many descendants (Genesis 5:25-31)
1) Methuselah: he passed away just right before the flood arrived
2) Lamech: who rested in peace 5 years before the flood.
3. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, they all had their regrets, but they received the mercy from God at the end. (Ref Hebrews 11:17-21)
4. Moses could not bring his grandson Jonathan to wedding banquet of the Lamb. (Hebrews 11:24, Ref Judges 18:30)
5. Gideon and his wife and concubines, and their 72 sons. (Hebrews 11:32, Ref judges 8:22-9:6)
6. Samuel could not bring his two sons to the wedding banquet of the Lamb. (Hebrews 11:32, Ref 1 Samuel 8:3-5)
7. David could not bring his beloved son Solomon to the weeding banquet of the Lamb (Hebrews 11:32, Ref Hebrew 11:321 Kings 11:3)
IV. Warning for Christians
“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18) “Dissipation/Debauchery” Strong number G0810 means riot, excess, an abandoned and dissolute life, profligacy, prodigality. (also see Titus 1:6. 1 Peter 4:4)
1. Consider the result of their conduct, can we learn from their history? Here is our warning.
1) The death of King Josiah of the Southern Kingdom (Judah), who served God faithfully.
2) Those who do great things for the Lord (Matthew 7:21-23)
2. We are in the perilous time in the last days. Whether it is a person, an event, or a thing can easily take hold of us and cause us to feel numb. Flee from these things. “Do not get drunk with wine, but be filled with the Holy Spirit.” May the Lord Himself lead us run toward the goal. And until that day, as we stand before the Lord who loves us so much, we may bring comfort to His heart!

- Breaking of Bread: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our church has not been able to have Breaking of Bread Meeting for a long time. But we want to follow the Lord’s command. According to the Holy Bible (Acts 2:46), saints can break bread at home if there are more than two people in a household. When conducting the Breaking of Bread, please use unleavened bread (like Matzo) and grape wine to remember the Lord. For regional home meetings, each home meeting may conduct its Break of Bread together online. Each family or individual within a regional home meeting will prepare its own bread and cup to remember the Lord. If brothers and sisters need any assistance relating to the online Breaking of Bread, like how to host or participate in an online meeting, or how to prepare unleavened bread and grape wine, or needing Hymnaries, for English Group, please contact Brother William, Brother Caleb and Sister Jean.
