Judgment of Jesus

Scriptures: John 18:28-40, 19:1-16

I. Jesus appeared before Pilate – Hall of judgment – governor’s house – palace (Matt 23:27) (Luke 23:2)(John 18:28-32)

a. Scribes and Pharisees – hypocrite and like whitewashed tomb.
b. Pilate went out to meet them and refused to judge.
c. Jews determined to put Jesus to death. (Mark 10:33, Matt 26:2)

II. My Kingdom is not of this World (John 18:33-40)

a. Pilate asked Jesus “Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus verified.
b. Jesus answered ‘My Kingdom is not of this world.
c. Pilate said to Jesus, “So you are a King?
d. Jesus answered, “I was born and have come into the world for this purpose – to bear witness to the truth.
e. Pilate found no guilt in Jesus but agreed to let the Jews decide.

III. Jesus was prepared to be crucified.

a. Jesus was flogged.
b. Crown of thorns was put on his head.
c. He was arrayed with purple robe.
d. They struck him while saying, “Hail, King of the Jews?”
e. Pilate pronounced Jesus guiltless.
f. Pilate said to them, “behold the man!”
g. Pilate said, “Behold your King!”
