Sovereignty of God
Scriptures: Rom 11:33, Isa 30:18, Rom 9:14, 15:9, Eph 1:6, Job 42:2, Dan 4:35, Prov 16:9, 19:21, Isa 46:9-11, Gen 50:19-20, 1 Peter 5:6, Rom 12:1-2, 2 Tim 2:15, 1 John 2:27-28, Number 24:3-5
I. Basis of God’s sovereignty:
-
1. Sovereign – Adjective – Possessing supreme and ultimate power and authority to the extent of being able to overwrite all other powers and authorities.
2. Nothing can successfully stop any act, any event, design or purpose which God intend to certainly bring about.
3. Sovereignty of God governed by His wisdom. (Rom 11:33)
4. Sovereignty of God governed by His justice, mercy, and grace. That His name might be glorified. (Isa 30:18, Rom 9:14, 15:9, Eph 1:6)
II. Passages describing God’s sovereignty:
-
1. Nothing can stop God’s purpose. (Job 42:2)
2. He does according to His will among the host of heaven and none can stay his hand or say to him “What have you done? (Dan 4:35)
3. The Lord establishes our steps (Proverbs 16:9)
4. Only the purpose of the Lord that will stand. (Proverbs 19:21)
5. Uniqueness of God. (Isa 46:9) – when something is happening, God’s response is “I am God”. You’re not acting as though you understand what it mean for me to be God.
6. He declares the end from the beginning. Ancient times thing not done. (Isa 46:10a) – I declare how things are going to turn out before it happen. I declare how doings are to turn out. Event and action in nature predicted.
7. His counsel shall stand. He will accomplish all His purpose. (Isa 46:10b, Eph 1:11) – He declares His foreknowledge by declaring His fore counsel. The reason why God knows the future is because He plans the future and accomplishes the future.
8. He spoke and will accomplish it. He plans and will do it. (Isa 46:11) – He knows the future because He controls the future.

IV. Applications:

1. Acknowledge that God is in control of past, present and future.
2. Commit our lives to God and allow Him to control our future. (1 Peter 5:6, Rom 12:1-2)
3. Rightly handling the word of truth – by understanding His divine purpose both in His eternal plan and His plan for our personal lives. (2 Tim 2:15)
4. Listen to the leading of the anointing. (1 John 2:27-28)
5. Observing our circumstances through the eye of God. (Numbers 24:3-5)

- In-Person Meeting: In order to ensure we operate in a safe environment, we ask all visitors to observe the following tentative rules and guidelines when coming to our church physical meetings:
- Please make a reservation for the Sunday Worship Service and or Breaking of Bread Meeting. We ask brothers and sisters to make a one-month reservation by visiting http://www.hocla.us/rsvp/ or call/text Brother Caleb Kwok at 626.888.9746. For Chinese Worship Service, please call Sister Käte at 626-757-6992. Reservation is required only for the Sunday Worship Service and the Breaking of Bread Meeting. If you come to our Sunday Worship Service without a reservation, we may or may not be able to accommodate you depending on the available seating capacity at that time.
- Anyone regardless of the vaccination status who comes to church meetings is subject to health screening and temperature check.
- Please wash your hands upon entering the church building. The church provides two hand sanitizing dispensers. One is placed in the entrance and another one on the second floor around the elevator area.
- Please wear a face mask while inside the church building. We will provide you one if you do not have one.
- When attending church meetings, please sit in every other seat to maintain a certain distance.
- Please sanitize the meeting place after each use.
- Children under 12 years old are not allowed to come in at this point.
- We will post the above rules and guidelines on the entry door.
- Prayer Meeting: Prayer Meetings are Tuesdays from 8:00 to 9:15PM, joining via Webex for the combined session of the meeting (Meeting number: 627 564 274 Password: 4000). We are using Zoom for the English group session, please reach out to Richer for login information.
- Offering: If you would like to make offerings, you can send your checks to: Home of Christians, L.A., PO Box 507, Monterey Park, CA 91754. Our accounting department will handle the offering every Sunday from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

We will follow “Wondered by the Word — The Bible in a Year” and will read through the Bible in a year, chronologically. With a reading plan, we can keep one another accountable in our Bible reading.
