Paul’s Pilgrim’s Progress

Scriptures: Philippians 3:13-16

I. Paul’s Pilgrim’s Progress – press on toward the goal.

  1. April 3 – April 5, 33 A.D. – Jesus Christ was crucified, died, and rose from the dead on the 3rd day. He ascended to heaven 40 days after His resurrection.
  2. Summer 35 A.D. Pual’s conversion
  3. Paul visited Jerusalem five times.
  4. June 57 A.D. – August 59 A.D. Paul was imprisoned in Caesarea.
  5. August 59 – February 62 A.D.
Paul finally arrived in Rome and was imprisoned there.
Spring 62 A.D. Paul finished writing the Book of Philippians and soon after was released from prison.
  6. Autumn 67 A.D. Paul was imprison in Rome again
While he was in prison, he wrote 2 Timothy 4:7-8

II. Paul’s heavenly hope – to receive the crown of righteousness.

  1. Spring 68 A.D. Paul was martyred
    – Paul was comforted in Abraham’s bosom (see Luke 16:22-25) and waiting to receive “the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” – which is the crown of glory.
  2. Afterward, Paul, with all the saints, will enter the new heaven and new earth, the Holy City Jerusalem.
  3. May today’s believers sing and echo this song with the saints of old.
